Obituary for Areva Floe Barnes

Areva F. Barnes, 96, of Bellefontaine, OH, formerly of Longwood, FL, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at Logan Acres Care Center, Bellefontaine.

Areva was born on April 3, 1921 in New Hampshire, OH to the late Dale and Lula Smith Cummins. On February 5, 1940, she married Forest H. Barnes in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell D. Cummins and Lowell Cummins.

Areva is survived by two children, Darrell (Connie) McKinley of Apalachicola, FL and Georgia Miller of Bellefontaine, eight grandchildren, Mary McKinley, Cory (Eva) Morris, Darrell “Sonny” McKinley, Carla Alspaugh, Tommy McKinley, Todd (Cyndi) Morris, Kelly Miller, and Alecia (Bill) Myers, 18 great grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Wanda Penhorwood of Urbana, OH, and Lois (Roger) Thompson of Pandora, OH, a sister-in-law, Nevada Cummins of Bellefontaine, and several nieces and nephews.

Areva earned her LPN at Daytona Beach Junior College and loved being a nurse for 32 years until she retired. She was a lifetime member of Parkside Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Longwood. She was also very active in her community as a member of Longwood and Seminole County Historical Society of Longwood, Longwood-St. Mary Lions Club, and Sweetwater Oaks Garden Club. She worked with the Central Florida District Church of the Nazarene in Missionary Children and Church Department. Her dedication earned her recognition from the International Nazarene Department of Sunday School from Dr. Woody Stevens. Areva was loved by all who knew her. Her motto in life was “to do work and pray for people who needed help”. She loved the Lord and was happy to help anyone.

Visitation locally will be Friday, September 22, 2017 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Parkside Fellowship Church of the Nazarene, 200 N. Wayman St, Longwood, FL. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 27th from 3-7 pm at the church. Burial is in Longwood Memorial Gardens.


Contributions may be given in her name to Parkside Fellowship Church of the Nazarene.
