Obituary for Donald D. Weber

Donald D. “Don” Weber, 93, of Bellefontaine, OH passed away September 14, 2017 at Mary Rutan Hospital.

Don was born on September 29, 1923 in Tuscarawas Co, OH, a son of the late Percy and Emma Newman Weber. On June 7, 1947, he married his high school sweetheart, Twila Baker in Dundee, OH and she preceded him in death on June 5, 2016. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Warren, and Glenn and three sisters, Helen Burrell, Jane Harrold and Marian Weber.

Don is survived by a daughter, Myra Lynn (Michael) Suman of Bellefontaine, and two grandchildren, Brandon Suman of Detroit and Brittany (Daniel) Fenderson of Toledo.

Don was a 1941 graduate of Dundee High School and 1950 graduate of The Ohio State University with a BS in Agriculture. Don served during WWII in the United State Army Air Corp. He was a radio operator and gunner on a B-24 with the 484th bomber group stationed in Cherignola, Italy in the European Theatre. His crew completing 50 missions. Don’s first job was in 6th grade as janitor for his one room schoolhouse. Upon graduating high school, he worked on a dragline shovel until he was 18. He then went to work in Canton as a lathe operator for Hercules Motors, where he also coach neighborhood kids in basketball. After graduating from OSU, he worked in agriculture as a farm manager, real estate broker, and farm appraiser, retiring as VP and General Manager of Dowds AG Services of Urbana, OH. Don was a longtime member of Waynesfield United Methodist Church. He was a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge #569, having been a Mason for 71 years, a member of Waynesfield American Legion Post #395, and Waynesfield Volunteer Fire Department. Don and his wife enjoyed traveling, sports, gardening and sharing their produce. They also enjoyed being with family and friends and playing cards. They were very proud of their family, especially their two grandchildren.

Pastors Ben Shaeffer and Vera Welker will begin funeral services at 11:00 am, Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Waynesfield United Methodist Church. Visitation is Sunday at the Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview from 2-5 pm with Masonic Services at 5, and visitation one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Burial is in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield with military honors provided by Wapakoneta VFW Post #8445.

Contributions may be given in his name to Waynesfield United Methodist Church or Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church Radio Ministry.
