Obituary for Gordon I Holbrook

Gordon I. Holbrook 83, of Waynesfield, OH, passed away early Sunday morning, January 29, 2017 at Lima Memorial Health Systems. Gordon was born on June 9, 1933 in Floyd County, KY to the late John and Cynthia Prater Holbrook. He was also preceded in death by six sisters, Burita Conley, Mae Spradlin, Goldie McDaniel, Pearl Fraley, Edna Shafer and Jean Gadie, two brothers, Charles Holbrook and Turner Holbrook, and a great grandson, Jack. On November 9,1957, he married the former Marlene Thompson in Harrod, OH and she survives. He is also survived by four sons, Robert E. (Sherry) Holbrook of Belle Center, OH, Timothy G. (April) Holbrook of Waynesfield, David K. (Amy) Holbrook of Roundhead, OH and Daniel K. (July) Holbrook of Belle Center, nine grandchildren, Scott, Amanda, Matthew, Bethany, Faith, Spencer, Miranda, Brandon, and Brittany and six great grandchildren. Gordon was a 1952 graduate of Alger High School and a veteran of the United States Army having served in Korea as a medic. He worked for Superior Coach in Lima, OH for 27 years, JJL Automotive for 10 years, drove a truck for Mid-Ohio Chemical and Royster Clark for 15 years and Armentrout Funeral Home for 13 years. Gordon was a member of McGuffey Church of Christ, was a Past Commander and life member of Roundhead VFW Post #8832 for over 55 years, he served 16 years on Upper Scioto Valley School Board and coached little league for 10 years. Jake Huber and Mike Armentrout will begin funeral services at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S Main St, Lakeview. Visitation is Tuesday, January 31st from 2- 8 p.m. at the funeral home with VFW honors at 4:00 pm by the Roundhead VFW Post #8832. Burial is in Roundhead Cemetery with military honors provided by Kenton Amvets Post #1994. Pallbearers are Matthew Holbrook, Christopher Holbrook, Steve Holbrook, Brandon Holbrook, Spencer Holbrook and Jared Poling. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Mr. Holbrook’s name to McGuffey Church of Christ. Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview.
