Obituary for Maurice B. Fuerst

Maurice B. Fuerst, 86, of New Hampshire, OH passed away early Thursday morning, July 12, 2018 at Otterbein Cridersville.

Maurice was born on February 2, 1932 in rural Putnam County, OH, a son of the late William and Catherine Meyer Fuerst. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin, two grandchildren, Ed Burden and Mandy Shoup, and four great grandchildren, Alex Shoup, James and Penelope Fuerst and Meah Baldauf.

On December 27, 1951, Maurice married Florence Hilvers at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville, OH and she survives along with their eight children, Mark (Diane) Fuerst of Ottawa, OH, Roy (Anne) Fuerst of Cridersville, OH, Kevin (Crystal) Fuerst of Woodland, WA, Bev (Paul) Green of Bellefontaine, OH, Kathleen (Edward) Burden of Botkins, OH, Debbie (Frank) Ulrey of Lakeview, OH, Rebecca (Michael) Eccard of Lancaster, OH, and Ann (Tim) Billings of Waynesfield, OH, 22 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, one brother, Karl (Patricia) Fuerst of Columbus Grove, OH, two sisters, Alice Niese of Leipsic, OH and Bernice (Jim) Unterbrink of Glandorf, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Maurice was a 1950 graduate of Glandorf High School. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea. Maurice retired from Western & Southern Life Insurance Company after 25 years serving the Lima, OH and St. Petersburg, FL communities. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, both in Russells Point and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul. He was a former member of Waynesfield American Legion Post 395. Maurice enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and OSU Buckeyes. He loved spending time with his family.

Rev. Shawn Landenwitch will begin a memorial mass at noon, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 464 Madison Avenue, Russells Point, with visitation two hours prior. Inurnment will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial Contributions may be given in Mr. Fuerst's name to St. Vincent de Paul or Grand Lake Hospice.
