Obituary for Wilda Joan Hinkle

Wilda Joan Hinkle, 87, passed away on December 6, 2017 at Lost Creek Care Center. Known simply as Jo to those who knew her best, she was born in Lima on February 26, 1930 to William J. and Bertha (Hofmann) Clark.

Shortly after graduating from Cridersville High School, she met and married the love of her life, Albert Reed Hinkle on July 16, 1947. Together they raised two children, Sue (William) Sonntag and Richard Clark Hinkle. She was a devoted grandmother, to Jennifer (Bryan Miller) Breitigan, Clyde (Michelle) Breitigan III, Kati (Kris) Brewer, and Amanda Sonntag. She was also the proud great grandmother of Lennon, Aubrey, Keegan, and Augustus.

Jo felt passionately about being of service to her family, friends, and community. An active member of Grace Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and participated in The Women’s Circle. Committed to her children, she was involved in the PTA, Mothers Study, and The Cub Scouts.

She was employed by A & D Real Estate as a licensed real estate and insurance agent. And in retirement she dedicated much of her time and talents to family and neighbors. She was committed to caring for her parents and her mother-in-law. She adored children, always had a book in her hand, snapped oodles of delightful photos, and loved being outdoors where she often could be found on the back of a lawn mower. And she never met an animal she didn’t like—except maybe snakes. Constantly on the go, Jo always enjoyed a cold beer at the end of a busy day!

Jo was preceded in death by her brothers, William and James Clark; her granddaughter, Amanda; and her son Richard. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Albert, who passed away in October 1996.

A private service will be held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, spread kindness and be of service to those you know. And those you don’t.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lost Creek Care Center for their loving care.

Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Condolences may be expressed at shoffstallfuneralhome.com.
